Alexandra Abelkis – Afternoon Teacher

Alex Abelkis attended Waldorf schools from PreKG through 12th grade.  After graduating from Tara Performing Arts High School in 2016, she went on to study neuroscience at Earlham College, a small liberal arts college in Indiana. Alex has an affinity for German studies and independent international travel, which began during her Sophomore Year at Shining Mountain when she studied in Germany for a semester. During her college years, she took full advantage of the international program opportunities. She was an intern at a nonprofit social justice organization in Berlin, and at an international hospital in Shanghai. She also spent a semester in Dharamsala, India in a Tibetan Studies program.

Alex has always had a passion for working with children and has been providing childcare services since she was in middle school. She worked at a preschool during college as well as worked as the Assistant Kindergarten Teacher at Shining Mountain Waldorf School during the 2020/21 school year. In October of 2021, Alex will be starting graduate school at the University of Vienna where she will be studying Human Rights Law. She is excited to join BWK during the month of September!
