A Butterfly Jubilee

Saturday, April 18th from 10am to noon

We are excited to invite you to our Butterfly Jubilee – a celebration of 100 years of Waldorf Early Childhood Education. In partnership with Shining Mountain Waldorf School and Boulder Valley Waldorf School, we are hosting this event on Saturday, April 18th from 10am to noon.

There will be four activities, a coffee truck, and a puppet show…all with a butterfly theme. The twenty-minute puppet show will be offered twice – 10:30 and 11:30. Please register HERE for the puppet show. Please plan enough time for your family to grab some coffee and child-friendly drinks, enjoy the activities together, and attend one of the puppet show performances.

This celebration is our way of recognizing the importance of the Waldorf Early Childhood movement. Waldorf schools across the continent will be celebrating along with us this spring as we all embrace the image of the butterfly. We took inspiration from the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) as we planned this event:

“WECAN has chosen the image of the magnificent butterfly as a symbol for this milestone in our development. The butterfly is a creature that starts as a crawling caterpillar, carefully choosing what it eats to grow and develop, then becomes a chrysalis, and eventually unfolds into an entirely new creature: a butterfly with the gift of flight! Although it appears delicate, the butterfly travels great distances to find the right environments in which to rest and grow. Perhaps most notably, the mighty Monarch journeys across all three nations in North America that united to form WECAN – traveling across borders through Mexico, Canada, and the United States.”

The past one hundred years represent a rich history of honoring childhood. This event is a way to celebrate the past 100 years and look ahead to the next century. We look forward to celebrating together with the BWK community and our sister schools in the area.
